September 2020

Dear Neighbour,

I hope this newsletter finds you well in trying times. I want to express to you how proud I am of the efforts of our residents and our city to flatten the curve and take care of each other through the COVID-19 pandemic. While we still have much to do, I know that we will continue to show the resilience that has brought us this far. Please accept my sincere thanks for all you have done.

Please keep in mind that in addition to provincial orders, the City of Mississauga has instituted a mandatory mask policy for indoor spaces including common spaces in condominiums and apartment buildings.

The Cooksville BIA

The Cooksville BIA is now fully operational! This important organization is going to have a strong positive impact in Cooksville. The BIA will support the growth of the Cooksville business community, promote economic development and attract business investments to Mississauga. They will continue to build on the success of the community and make it a vibrant, beautiful hub where businesses and the community can work together to create a strong economic future.

Bollards Are Back!

Great news! As you may have noticed the flexible bollards are back on Stavebank, Premium Way and Queensway West between Glengarry and Mavis to aid in traffic calming in the area. They will be present until snowplow operations resume.

Slower Speed Limits Rollout

You may recall that last year as part of phase one, we reduced speed limits in a significant area of Ward 7. To continue that work, staff are proposing a two-phase rollout of the 40 km/h Neighbourhood Area Speed Limit signs within the neighbourhood (see attached map for reference). Phase one (section A) sign installation is planned for late September of 2020. Phase two (section B) will include all remaining roadways south of Queensway East, and will be scheduled as a part of the Neighbourhood Area Speed Sign Program.

Patio Program Extended

As a result of requests from local restaurateurs we will be extending the City’s Temporary Patio Program to November 15th. This is the final extension that will be granted to those who have secured a temporary patio for 2020. Extensions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure that the patio and surrounding area can be safely maintained during a winter event. Thank you for your continued support of our local restaurants.

Neighbourhood Improvements

Whaley/Stillmeadow
A number of improvements have been scheduled in the area:

  • Removal of an existing fence and gate and replacement with a new fence and gate meeting the City standard

  • Paving of a gravel driveway with asphalt up to the new gate location

  • Straightening the existing retaining wall

Waste pickup frequency has been increased for Dundas and Mavis plazas to improve cleanliness in the area.

Hillcrest Area
More garbage bins have been placed in Brickyard Park for residents enjoying the paths. Staff will continue to monitor the area to ensure the containers are adequate for the park.

Erindale Village
Road resurfacing has begun in Erindale Village. See the map below for details. The work includes a variety of improvements and is scheduled to be completed in November.

Downtown Cooksville Area
Permanent bike lanes are coming to King Street from Confederation Parkway to Camilla Road. Implementation of bicycle lanes in this location will:

  • convert the existing temporary lanes to long-term installations using paint and bollards;

  • retain the same number of vehicular traffic lanes, and;

  • will require no parking prohibitions to be added east of Shepard Ave
